Oh, Canada. It’s up
there. North of the border. The part of the world that cultivates
some of the best acoustic talent around. However, a lot of
talented Canadian musicians seldom get a chance to showcase their
work down here in the States. For our 5th Annual Who’s At First
Folk Festival, we’re going to change all that. We’re proud to
announce The Canadian Arctic Blast Folk Fest…an impressive
line-up of talented musicians/singers/songwriters from the big
red, maple-leaf side of the Great Lakes! |

Garnet Rogers
Garnet Rogers has courageously
established himself as a formidable solo artist. Hailed by the
Boston Globe as a "charismatic performer and singer" and
“one of the major talents of our time." With his
"smooth, dark baritone" (Washington Post) his incredible
range, and thoughtful, dramatic phrasing, Garnet is widely
considered by fans and critics alike to be one of the finest
singers anywhere. His music, like the man himself, is literate,
passionate, highly sensitive, and deeply purposeful. An optimist
at heart, Garnet sings extraordinary songs about people who are
not obvious heroes and of the small everyday victories. As
memorable as his songs, his over-the-top humor and lightning-quick
wit move his audiences from tears to laughter and back again. |

James Gordon
Based in Guelph, Ontario, James
Gordon is known to many North Americans as the founder of Canada's
premier folk group TAMARACK. With this durable trio he toured
every corner of the continent, recorded fourteen albums, and made
countless television and radio appearances. James has become
well-known for his original songs about Canada's identity and
heritage. He has also released numerous solo albums for adults and
children, composed works for symphony orchestras, co-written a
popular series of "Jim and Dave" family musicals and
written music for theatre, dance and film. His original folk opera
"Hardscrabble Road" debuted in 2003. |

Matt Watroba
Matt Watroba?!? OK. This is a
stretch. Matt hosts the “Folks Like Us” Show on WDET in
Detroit every Saturday morning. Detroit is technically north of
Windsor. That puts him virtually “north of the border.”
However you may stretch the geography, we just cannot imagine a
Who’s At First Folk Festival without Matt. Hopefully our
esteemed guests will make Matt an honorary Canadian, even if it’s
just for the night. |
